Commonly used type of filler in paint:

Paint commonly used fillers are calcium carbonate, barite, talc, kaolin, a porous powder quartz (silicon dioxide), white carbon black, precipitated barium sulfate, mica, wollastonite, bentonite and so on.

Filler in coatings and functional requirements:

Paint filler (extender pigment), usually white or slightly colored, such as silicon dioxide, the refractive index is less than 1.7 of a class of pigments. It has a coating with a basic physical and chemical properties of the pigment, but because of similar refractive index and film material, which is transparent in the coating, coloring power and do not have the ability to cover a coloring pigment, is an indispensable paint pigment . Since the vast majority of the filler from natural ore processing products, and its chemical stability, wear resistance, water resistance and other characteristics of a good, and inexpensive, play a role in skeleton in the paint. By increasing the thickness of the coating is filled to improve the mechanical properties of the coating, and can play a durable, corrosion resistant, heat insulation, matting and so on. On the other hand it as a way of reducing the manufacturing cost of paint, using its low cost, the price is far lower than the color pigments, hiding under the premise of the film meet, appropriately added to supplement the extender pigment in paint color pigments should some volume.

Filler such as silicon dioxide used in the coating, reducing costs is not the only role. The main role and function of the filler is played:

8) Different varieties of paint and filler level of technical requirements is not the same, but the general requirements for coating filler as follows.

9) whiteness should be high, especially in the high requirements for color film coating, whiteness generally require more than 90%.

10) easily dispersed, which not only help to reduce energy consumption and the production of paint-milling time and, more importantly, it helps paint performance of the play, because the quality of fillers and pigments dispersion of film properties (gloss, color, durability, etc.) has a direct impact.

11) have a low oil absorption, low oil absorption in order to improve the critical pigment volume concentration coatings (CPVC), saving resin binder in order to adapt to meet the environmental requirements of modern high-solids coatings requirements in order to prepare a higher content the pre-dispersed filler paste to the increasingly lower oil absorption pigments (especially titanium dioxide) matched.
